Sitting on the curb- Picture Prompt Contest Entry

Sitting on the curb and the sun is setting low,

I cannot go inside and I have nowhere else to go.

My parents are at odds again, all they do is bark

I want to be in my room not out here in the dark.

I cannot take the screaming or the crying that comes near the end

My father will not back down and my mother will not bend.

I don’t think they even remember how to love each other

I cannot help but wonder if they think of me or my baby brother.

So here I sit awaiting the slam of bedroom doors

So I can go back inside at the end of parental wars.

I’ll check on little brother and make sure he’s asleep

Then I’ll lay in bed and try to count some sheep.

The wars will start again with the rising sun

My parents just can’t stop, it all will come undone

I swear I’ll never marry, no one will catch my eye

That way I’ll never hurt someone I loved by having to say goodbye.

Hate

A vicious hatred dwells
Ice cold inside
Visceral glacier
Moving slowly
Scarring my soul!
Gouging deep bête noire valleys
Forcing up dark malignant peaks!
How to climb these jagged
Prominences?
How to transverse these bottomless crevasses?
I cry out to God
For guidance
A respite from treacherous
Loathing!
Lord let your light
Shine down
Upon my path!

The Boogie Man

The Boogie Man is in my head,
Not in the closet or under the bed.
He comes to me when I sleep,
Peace of mind I cannot keep.
He brings me only horror and pain.
When I wake I’m barely sane!
He uses all my fears and trauma
To make me scream out for my Mumma
But I’m a grown woman now, she will not come!
Instead I lay in darkness, quite undone.

The Ferryman- Picture Prompt, under 100 words Contest Entry

Acheron, river of woe
Into its depths the obol I throw
Kharon, the ferryman answers the call
The boatman places me under his thrall
My soul he carries to distant shores
The world of the living I’m part of no more
Persephone’s kiss I long to receive
My death has honor, this I believe
I step off the barge and walk to her side
Thanking the ferryman for the smooth ride.

Fairy Queen – Poem contest, picture prompt

Verdant meadows green
Realm of the Fairy Queen.
A wreath of Forget-me-nots upon her brow
Witness to her sacred vow
Captive lover for seven years
The Fae court erupts in cheers
With his life he pays the tithe to hell
The courtiers dance to his death knell
The Morgan sheds one crystal tear
Then rises to search for the next volunteer.
